February 25 – Perugino String Quartet

The Grand Valley State University quartet in residence performed as part of the prestigious Julliard String Quartet Seminar. Tonight they will also perform with the Dogwood Center Youth String Program under the direction of Henry Duitman. 7:30 p.m. Main Stage. Donations accepted at the door.

Newaygo County students have been working with GVSU faculty soloists, the Perugino String Quartet, taking Master classes and practicing their skills to perform a chamber orchestra selection you are sure to enjoy. Donations accepted at the door.

June 6 – The Chenille Sisters – 7:30 p.m.

Embark on an inspirational journey through the music of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. The Chenille Sister’s  performance “Whatcha Gonna Swing Tonight?” includes re-interpreted tunes Chenille’s – style, like “Bob White”, “Sentimental Journey”, “Low Gravy”, and “Bye, Bye Blues”.

The Ann Arbor Based trio, comprised of Cheryl Dawdy, Connie Huber and Grace Morand, was formed in 1985 and have been entertaining audiences of all ages over the last twenty plus years.  They are well-known for their heavenly voices, a lot of witty wisdom and a passion for connecting with their audiences.
The trio has recorded twelve CD’s, performed on Garrison Keillor’s radio show “The Prairie Home Companion”, and had an Emmy-award winning PBS Special “The Chenille Sisters Makin’ Rhythm”.  The group has a strong following all over Michigan and always has a strong, witty, entertaining performance.  They have seven commercial CD’s out on the Red House label, including two award- winning children’s CD’s.
Tickets $15. 7:30 p.m. Main Stage.

May 29 – Paul Vondiziano, Classical Guitar – 7:30 p.m.

A superb and prestigious guitarist, Paul plays music from Bach to Mediterranean composers with brilliant technique.  Among the most capable and inspiring musicians around, his masterful playing creates complete freedom for musical expression. paul_vondiziano_lo1
Vondiziano’s performance will include Fernando Sor’s “Mozart Varieations Op.9”, Manuel Ponce’s “Suite in A Minor”, J.S. Bach’s “Prelude-Fugue-Allegro”, Joao Guimaraes’ “Three Brazilian Pieces, Carlo Domeniconi’s “Koyunbaba Op. 19”, as well as some of his own original pieces.
This talented guitarist has collaborated with various musicians and ensembles and has performed as concerto soloist with ensembles such as the Cyprus National Chamber Orchestra, Boise Philharmonic, Kalamazoo Symphony, Plymouth Symphony, and various university related orchestras.  Recently,  he has had well received performances in Athens, Greece, Nicosia Cyprus, Sotogrand and Jimena in Spain.
Paul Vondiziano’s performance is funded in part by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Michigan Humanities Council.

April 18 – Foreign Film Series "The Big Animal" – 7:30 p.m.

Written by Krzysztrof Kiesslowski. This Polish film shot in shimmering black and white is an inspiring film celebrating the most human of themes: love, tolerance and sacrifice. The Big Animal is a charming fairy tale for grownups – a wise and cautionary parable about tolerance that is at once funny, compassionate and heartwarming. Tickets $7.50. 7:30 p.m.

March 28 – Yuki & Tomoko Mack, Duo Pianists

The Mack Sisters have won top prizes in major international duo-piano competitions in the United States and Japan. The duo’s exquisite musicianship and dynamic technique is couple with an extensive repitoire including works by Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Gerschwinn and Copland.  Tickets $15 Adult/$10 Children.

March 22 – Kalamazoo Ringers

A handbell choir from southwest Michigan, one of the oldest continuously performing community handbell choirs in the country.  The Kalamazoo Ringers will be joined for part of the program by the Cathedral Bell Choir from the United Methodist Church of Fremont for a double bell performance.

March 21 – Foreign Film Series "Maborosi"

Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. A mother struggles to come to terms with the sudden loss of her husband. She remarries and with her young son moves to her new husband’s home in a remote village on the wild, untamed Sea of Japan. Tickets $7.50.

February 28 – Fred Garbo's Inflatable Theater

Starring a pneumatic wizard and Brazilian ballerina, the duo has performed around the world, including the David Letterman Show. The program includes comedy, dance, juggling, and most importantly, their own wild inflatable inventions!
