La De Les is a Boston based shoegaze band. The members of La De Les are Cody Nicolas, Aaron James Nicolas, Jocelyn Nicolas and Sara Holbert.
Finding their start in 2008 in Michigan, La De Les released “The New Jerusalem EP” before distance forced its way between members, bringing their progress to a two-year standstill. Now finding themselves in a new beginning, La De Les have eagerly awaited the release of their album, “Gadfly”, this summer.
Playing to the sounds of ambient alternative rock, some of La De Les’ influences include Sigur Ros, This Will Destroy You, Brand New, Me Without You, Sufjan Stevens and many, many more.
West Michigan’s Audrey is making a name for themselves, building steadily since the 2009 release of the debut EP “When We Were Young”. Kalamazoo Noisedefines the group as “infectious, honest and beautiful… gleaning all the positive aspect of the genre without venturing into territory where their work becomes plastic or artificial.”
With their November 2010 release, the group has found a more developed and mature sound. Members include Everett Parks, Corey M. Bickford, Shawn McMann, Kameron Chauvez, and Derek Gramza. Check out their music at: http://audreymichigan.bandcamp.com/album/the-flyaway.

October 9 – Film "Thelonious Monk – Straight No Chaser" – 7:30 p.m.
“Thelonius Monk: Straight No Chaser” is a unique cinematic portrait of one of the most extraordinary individuals in the history of jazz. Produced by Clint Eastwood, the film is built around documentary footage, shot in the late 1960’s of the great Black pianist and composer Thelonius Monk. Combining this footage with newly filmed interviews of relatives, associates and friends, the film sheds further light on Monk’s unique genius providing us with a never-before-seen look at the extraordinary work of this one-of-a-kind musical revolutionary.
Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer considered “one of the giants of American music”. Monk had a unique improvisionational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire. He is the second most recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington, which is particularly remarkable as Ellington composed over 1,000 songs while Monk wrote about 70.
Monk’s compositions and improvisations are full of dissonant harmonies and angular melodic twists, and are consistent with Monk’s unorthodox approach to the piano, which combined a highly percussive attack with abrupt, dramatic use of silences and hesitations.

September 11 – Film "Beyond Belief" – 7:30 p.m.
A moving yet beautiful film, “Beyond Belief” is showing at the Dogwood Center during Newaygo County’s “30 Days of Peace”.
Susan Retik and Patti Quigley were two ordinary soccer moms living in the affluent suburbs of Boston until the tragedy of September 11 struck. Rather than turn inward, grief compelled these women to focus on empowering widows in the country where the terrorists who took their husbands’ lives were trained: Afghanistan.
As Susan and Patti make the courageous journey from their comfortable neighborhoods to the most desperate afghan villages, they discover a powerful bond with each other, an unlikely kinship with widows halfway around the world, and a profound way to move beyond tragedy. From the ruins of the World Trade Center to Kabul and back, “Beyond Belief” is a journey of personal strength, international reconciliation and a testament to the vision that peace can be forged…. one woman at a time.
