The Rhythm Society Orchestra is a 15 piece dance band specializing in true vintage swing music. Their sound is heavily influenced by Count Basie and Harry James. Although based in Detroit, this band covers top venues throughout the Midwest and has been featured on numerous television and radio programs.
Crooner Paul King describes his style as “a mixture of Mel Torme, Joe Williams, and Frank Sinatra – with a dash of Cab Calloway thrown in”. Detroit’s Metro Times jokes, “his voice has been banned in some nightclubs for inducing public displays of affection on the dance floor”.
The Rhythm Society Orchestra was recently featured in a Michigan-made independent film, Forever in Time, directed by Chuck Grady.
Backed by the solid, horn-heavy sounds of the swingin’ Rhythm Society, handsome front man Paul King belts out the tunes in vintage suave style. In an instant, you’ll be transported into the dance halls of the ’30’s and ’40’s, where a cool-suited cat grabs the hand of the nearest full-skirted honey and the dance-floor crowd parts to watch them take a manic dip and twirl.

Discover the Big Top Within….Cirque Amongus, a one-day Circus Camp will introduce children, ages 6- 12 years old, to a range of circus skills.  There will definitely be an abundance of fun as participants laugh and giggle while they ride unicycles and tiny bikes, walk a tightrope or with stilts, jump rope, do magic tricks, stay atop a rolling barrel, swing on a trapeze, or learn to juggle.
In the morning, students will learn each of the 10 different circus acts.  After lunch, they chose their favorite and spend the afternoon perfecting it and putting together an act with other participants, assisted by Cirque Amongus instructors and volunteers.  At the end of the day, when their families come back, the whole troupe puts on a show with their newly found skills.
The daylong program by Cirque Amongus, a Livonia company that brings all the equipment and instructors for “Circus Day”, will promote teamwork, self-esteem and fun throughout the day.

After spending seven years with her band Sarah & The Tall Boys, Sarah Potenza relocated to Nashville Tennessee with not much more than her husband and her monster vocals. That coupled with her honest reflective songwriting she quickly garnered the attention of the city’s thriving music scene and she became a staple at the world renowned Bluebird Café and the globally broadcast Music City Roots program.

One of her performances on Music City Roots resulted in a phone call from the NBC television show, “The Voice”. Potenza took the challenge in stride and managed to land a four chair turn and out of 50,000 contestants, she made it to the top twenty!
Her passion for performing and undeniable voice resonated with America and made her a fan favorite across the country. Nashville welcomed her home with pride and celebrated her authentic, heart-felt songwriting with a sold out show at the Bluebird Cafe and her debut on the Grand Old Opry.
Her new album “Monster” will be available in early 2016 and she is currently on tour!

West Michigan’s own An Dro returns to the Dogwood along with the Scoli Rince Ni Bhraonain (SRNB) Irish Dancers from the Fremont Academy!

An Dro is an ensemble of eclectic instrumentalists who speak from the heart with uncommon synergy. Their music is a blend of traditional and original melodies from across the globe, reaching back to the past, with an eye to the present and the future. The band takes you on an adventure that is both personal and universal. You’ll hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains, Appalachian influences, Arabic rhythms, and African grooves all performed with joy and freshness. This is dance music but it’s also listening music. An Dro’s original works have a feel that is both ancient and modern with a dynamic range that takes you from crazy dance grooves to delicately orchestrated waltzes and airs to blazing improvisational assaults. An Dro consists of Jim Spalink on bouzouki, harp, gurdy gurdy; Michele Venegas on fiddle; and Carolyn Koebel handling world percussion. The band is excited to welcome the SRNB Dancers to join them for the performance. Don’t miss this one!

The Ballet Folklorico “Quetzalli ” (kets-AH-lee) de Veracruz is a very special group of young people who enjoy the traditions and cultures of their native country, Mexico. In particular, they enjoy performing the traditional music and dances of their home, Veracruz. The company is made up of more than 30 young singers, dancers and musicians, who perform this beautiful art for people all over the world, including in Japan, Europe, Mexico and the United States.

Founded in 1985 by Maestro Hugo Betancourt, Ballet Folklorico “Quetzalli” makes its home in the state capital, Xalapa, Veracruz. They have toured internationally performing traditional folkloric dances, as well as their Afro-Caribbean spectacular, “Carnaval Veracruzano”. The company has been the official representatives for Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development for the State of Veracruz since 1986 having given hundreds of performances across Mexico and the United States, South America, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.

With the release of the upcoming full length album, Undone Bird, Watching For Foxes brings new elements to a classic genre. Lush with beautiful progressions, a roots folk feel, and big choruses, the album boasts the aesthetic of indie folk anthems. Although the songs are diverse from one and other, there is a glue that holds the record together much like a concept album. Most importantly, the band never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.

The first single and title track, Undone Bird, is a neo-folk track that, like the rest of the album, tells a story that comes from a very real place.
“Undone Bird is about the unity of our flawed design. Even though we are all imperfect, we all have people who love us and care about us and we are able to keep living and doing what we love. Everyone has a place to call their own, to call home; this song is about our journey in finding that on the road, as a band.”
Although the single speaks volumes for the Album, to get a real understanding of the band, it should be heard in its entirety.
”We started out playing sad, indie-folk songs. They were simple and definitely more derivative of neo-folk traditions; we drew a lot from contemporary folk artists like Mumford and Sons and cats like that. We still love that music, but as our line-up grew and solidified, we were able to included many more of our diverse influences and make a sound that we like to think is all our own. We have elements of roots rock, folk-rock, and indie-rock in our sound, and I think we’ve created a really cool little niche for ourselves that will serve us well in the future; more importantly, it reflects who we all are, and who inspires us, in a much more complete way.” Says the band their evolution.
Starting as a three piece band, Watching For Foxes consisted of friends that grew up together in Fremont, MI rehearsing in a vacant high school. The band started performing live in early 2014 and continued on touring the Midwest.  Wanting to create a bigger sound live, they soon began looking for additional players. After going through some line-up changes, the band finally locked in their members and have been together ever since.
Watching For Foxes released two EP’s while they were still operating as a three piece band, and shortly after, released their single Two Lovers. The Undone Bird album will be the bands first actual release with their finalized full band line up. Undone Bird is set to be released in early April and the band continues to gig incessantly throughout Michigan and the Midwest in support of their upcoming album release.
Having shared the stage with the likes of Langhorne Slim, Larry and His Flask, Joseph, Saintseneca, Roadkill Ghost Choir, and Knox Hamilton, the band fell in love with the performing live pretty quickly and obviously feel comfortable putting themselves out there as story tellers to those who will listen. As the band themselves put it, “We love playing music together, and we want this to be our entrance into doing music for a living; we work really hard at what we do. Our songs yearn to be heard, to tell our stories, and inspire others to do the same!”

A magic mirror and a malicious queen makes “Snow White” one of the most famous stories of all time. Performed by Grand Rapids Ballet School Junior Company, this Brothers Grimm favorite is full of love, jealousy, and obsession with youthful beauty. This rich and immersive fantasy production is choreographed by Attila Mosolygo.

The story line of “Snow White”, a Brothers Grimm favorite, includes a magic mirror – “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” – a malicious queen, a charming little princess, a group of seven adorable dwarfs, and of course the handsome prince.  Our story ends with the wedding celebration of Snow White and the Prince who live happily ever after.

The Michigan Youth Ballet Theatre will present their “Star Wars Tribute Ballet and Graduation Ball” on Saturday, March 12 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on the Main Stage!

Star Wars Tribute Ballet is an original choreography by Sean France, former soloist with the Royal Swedish Ballet,  set to the extraordinary music of John Williams. Relive the romance and adventure as you’ve never seen it before – through the beautiful art of dance. Audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character.

Graduation Ball is a comedic ballet set it one act to the music of Johann Strauss II and choreographed by Sean France. It takes place at a girls finishing school in the late 1800’s during a ball celebrating the graduating class. The headmistress has invited a boys military school to attend and flirtations, comedy and romance all are present.

E.B. White’s beloved children’s tale is brought to life in this production, which finds the young farm pig Wilbur attempting to avoid a dire fate. Of all the barnyard creatures, Wilbur’s staunchest ally is Charlotte, a thoughtful spider who devises an intriguing plan to keep the gentle little swine out of the slaughterhouse. Although Charlotte’s efforts, which involve words written in her delicate web, seem far-fetched, they may just work.
