July 14 – Bootstrap Boys – 7:30 p.m.

May 25, 2018 by Dogwood

bootstrap-boys-poster

The Bootstrap Boys including Jake Stilson, Nick Alexander, Josh McBryde, Jeff Knoll and special guest Tom Stolaski, are a country band who have developed a fresh take on the classic country sound. Their original songs might bring to mind the likes of Waylon Jennings, George Jones, or Johnny Cash. More than once The Boys have been compared to contemporary country acts such as Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapelton and other artists who have embraced the return of the country sound of the past. Based in Grand Rapids, the Bootstrap Boys have developed a unique sound. Their original tunes take their cues from that particular mix of country and gospel found in the small churches of rural Michigan, spiced with the redneck flavor of the small town honky tonks of the Midwest.

May 18 – Sarah Potenza and Meghan Linsey – 7:30 p.m.

March 30, 2018 by Dogwood

meghan-and-sarah-for-webBoth Sarah Potenza and Meghan Linsey have made a name for themselves since competing on NBC’s “The Voice” in 2015 and gone on to wow audiences across the nation, each with a powerfully soulful and distinctive voice.

Potenza left the show as a top 20 finalist then headed to Nashville, where she quickly integrated into the local music scene, becoming a staple at the world renowned Bluebird Café and the globally broadcast Music City Roots program. She continues to earn raves for her big voice, which seamlessly blends roots, rock and soul. NPR Music exclusively premiered the music video to Potenza’s debut album, ‘Monster’. Programmers have been supporting her gritty sound and unstoppable resolve, resulting in ‘Monster’ moving quickly up the Americana Radio chart. NPR Music calls the album a “blistering, riff-propelled personal anthem,” while No Depression states, “You won’t find any gimmicks on MONSTER, just pure unadulterated rock and roll.” Sarah’s album also received rave reviews from Rolling Stone. In September the magazine named her one of the top 10 artists you need to know, stating “Potenza is to the Blues what Adele is to Pop.”

In May 2015, Meghan was named the Season 8 Runner Up of NBC’s hit show The Voice. In 2015 Meghan charted a #1 on the Christian Billboard chart with her rendition of “Amazing Grace”. After her journey on The Voice, Meghan independently released her pop EP ‘Believer’ which debuted at #6 on the iTunes Pop Chart. During her time on The Voice, Meghan had several songs top the iTunes charts including 3 #1 songs on the iTunes All Genre Chart. Before The Voice, Meghan was one half of the chart topping country duo Steel Magnolia. The duo’s debut single “Keep On Lovin You” landed the #4 Position on the Billboard Country chart and was the highest charting debut single from a co-ed duo in country music history. “Linsey marries soul, blues, rock, country and even a little gospel together in a unique, captivating sound that has seemingly no ceiling to its range.” – Rolling Stone

Powerful. Soulful. Distinctive. These are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the incredible voice and natural allure of Meghan Linsey. She uses her voice and overall presence, along with the songs she so carefully crafts, to tell the stories she wants, or more accurately, “needs” to tell.

Click here to purchase tickets! $20. Black Box. General admission seating. 7:30 p.m. Tables can be reserved with the purchase of eight tickets.

May 10 or 13 – Dogwood Summer Youth Theater Auditions for Robin Hood

March 15, 2018 by Dogwood

robin-hood
The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater will present the classic story, Robin Hood! Auditions will be held at the Dogwood Center Black Box. Youth ages 12 and up are invited to come and try out on either Thursday, May 10 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. or Sunday, May 13 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Casting calls for at least 21 male and female roles with room for many extras.
Who doesn’t know the story of Robin Hood and his merry men? Well, you can forget all about it. This version of Robin Hood is a hysterical, sprawling, action packed drama. Besides cleverly retelling the legend, the author has created roles that challenge and reinvent the myth. Including a wise cracking, superior swordsperson in Marian and a Robin who only by chance finds himself a hero. But true to the legend, all ends well; the Sheriff’s sleazy scheme to wed young Ellen fizzles, King John’s vicious taxes are rescinded, the Sherwood Foresters are finally legitimized, and justice descends on England’s green and pleasant land.
The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater will be directed again by Chelsea Webb. The performance dates for Robin Hood are July 27 and 28. For more information please contact the Dogwood Center at 231.924.8885.
