Alex Guthrie is a singer-songwriter whose music is a perfect blend of soul, folk and rock. Guthrie brings audiences together through brilliant lyrics and an expressive voice and continues to impress and defy conventional expectations, making waves as he makes great music.

In the early stages of his career, Guthrie released his first album, Lessons Learned, and also scored the Atlanta Braves Band of the Year in 2014. In 2015, Guthrie and his band were awarded the Georgia Americana Artist of the Year — another astounding achievement bringing his music much-deserved attention and recognition. Within a short span of time, Guthrie was opening up for national touring artists including renowned BMLG Records recording Artist Drake White, RCA recording artist Bleachers, and famous Atlantic Records recording Artist Kelly Clarkson.

Most recently, Guthrie performed the National Anthem at SunTrust Park for the Atlanta Braves, voted “Most Popular” Emerging Artist at the 2018 Summerfest in Milwaukee, opened for Smash Mouth at the Coca Cola Roxy for the Arby’s Foundation Dream Big Event, and perhaps, most notably, Guthrie has been referred to as “the guy from the Jennifer Hudson commercial.” The now-infamous American Family Insurance commercial that features him playing in Atlanta’s Woodruff Park when the Grammy Award-Winning singer Jennifer Hudson surprises Guthrie and sings along to Bill Wither’s beloved “Lovely Day.” The commercial has played on national television and radio, resulting in new opportunities and heightened awareness for Alex Guthrie, his band and his music.

September 28 – Sandi Patty – 7:30 p.m.

August 2, 2018 by Dogwood

sandipattyheadshot2-webAs one of the most highly acclaimed performers of our time with five Grammy® awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold records, and eleven million units sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as The Voice.

Sandi is the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history, with 40 Dove Awards. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and as an Indiana Living Legend in 2007. She has released over 30 albums, including her latest album “Everlasting” exclusively at Target Stores, through Somerset, Ltd. “Everlasting” features notable hymns and songs of worship in an intimate and acoustic setting. Her debut full length symphonic pops album “Broadway Stories”, conducted by Maestro Jack Everly, was released on October 18, 2011 to rave reviews.
Sandi was introduced to the world with her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Virtually overnight she became one of the country’s best-loved performers. Her version of the national anthem has become synonymous with patriot celebration, including performances at “A Capitol Fourth” with the National Symphony, the Indianapolis 500, the Dedication of Camp David Chapel, and ABC’s Fourth of July Special. While her thirty-year career is heavily rooted in the gospel music industry, Sandi has had the opportunity in more recent years to extend her career outside the genre. Sandi has performed with symphonies across the country, including the New York Pops, Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Dallas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She also headlined the title role in sold out performances of the musical “Hello, Dolly!” with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, co-starring Tony Award winner Gary Beach in January 2012.
In addition to her prolific musical career, Sandi is also an accomplished author. For the bestseller Broken on the Back Row, Sandi received the 2006 Silver Angel Award. As an author of seven books, her other titles include Life in the Blender, Falling Forward, Layers, and her forthcoming book, The Edge of the Divine. Her down-to-earth style and sturdy common sense have endeared her to Women of Faith® audiences, with whom she has traveled with since 2005. She’s an example to all of us of the freedom that comes from learning how to move on, learning from her mistakes and letting God use her in any circumstance. “I am grateful for the many opportunities for God has given in my life and for how He has allowed me to spread my wings,” says Sandi. “Singing is my way to tell my story of hope, life, and love.” Sandi and her husband, Don, have eight children. They currently reside in Oklahoma City, OK.

July 27 and 28 – Dogwood Summer Youth Theater: Robin Hood – 7:30 p.m.

May 25, 2018 by Dogwood

robin-hood
The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater will present the classic story, Robin Hood!
Who doesn’t know the story of Robin Hood and his merry men? Well, you can forget all about it. This version of Robin Hood is a hysterical, sprawling, action packed drama. Besides cleverly retelling the legend, the author has created roles that challenge and reinvent the myth. Including a wise cracking, superior swordsperson in Marian and a Robin who only by chance finds himself a hero. But true to the legend, all ends well; the Sheriff’s sleazy scheme to wed young Ellen fizzles, King John’s vicious taxes are rescinded, the Sherwood Foresters are finally legitimized, and justice descends on England’s green and pleasant land.
The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater is directed again this summer by Chelsea Webb. Auditions were held on May 10 and 13 for interested youth ages 12 and up.
Show dates and times are Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28, at 7:30 p.m. each evening.
Free admission. Donations accepted at the door to support Dogwood Center programs. Main Stage. General admission seating.
