November 2 – John Gorka – 7:30 p.m.

August 9, 2019 by Dogwood

gorka-webRolling Stone magazine called him “the preeminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.”  John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential iconic singer-songwriter of the 80’s folk scene.  Since his 1987 Red House release, I Know, the Minnesota-via-New Jersey guitarist and songwriter’s wit and honesty has made him one of the most respected, beloved songwriters currently carrying on the folk tradition.

Many well-known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O’Connell. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, eTown Hall and has appeared on CNN. His song “Where No Monuments Stand” is featured in the upcoming documentary Every War Has Two Losers, about activist Poet Laureate William Stafford (1914-1993).
