The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater will present The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!
Tom Sawyer, a mischievous boy, lives with his Aunt Polly in a Mississippi River town and spends most of his time getting in and out of trouble. After playing hooky from school, Aunt Polly makes Tom whitewash the fence as punishment, but Tom cleverly persuades his friends to do the work for him. Looking for adventure, Tom and Huckleberry Finn run away to become pirates, but when they discover the townspeople think they have drowned, they make guest appearances at their own funerals. However, Tom and Huckleberry Finn discover the dark side of their town when they go to the graveyard one night and witness the murder of Dr. Robinson. When they find out Muff Potter has been framed for the murder, they must decide whether to risk their lives to save his. All the wit, charm, and humor of the novel is preserved in this enchanting comedy that is suitable for all ages. Adapted by Doug Goheen from the novel by Mark Twain.
The Dogwood Summer Youth Theater will be directed again by Chelsea and Casey Webb. Auditions were held on May 5 and 7 for interested youth ages 12 and up.

The Mark Lavengood Band presents the “Bluegrass Bonanza,” a night of roots, bluegrass, and expert picking from Michigan’s premiere acoustic artists. With Mark Lavengood at the helm on dobro/guitar/mandolin, the core band and featured artists will include Justin Wierenga on guitar, Justin Avdek on upright/electric bass, Dutcher Snedeker on keys, Nathan Coles on drums, Jason Wheeler on mandolin and multi-instrumentalist Brad Phillips. Discover the Big Top Within….Cirque Amongus, a one-day Circus Camp will promote teamwork and self-esteem while introducing children to a wide range of circus skills.  There will be an abundance of fun as participants laugh and giggle while they ride unicycles and tiny bikes, walk a tightrope, do magic tricks, stay atop a rolling barrel, swing on a trapeze, or learn to juggle!
Family and friends will be treated with a special performance at 4:00 p.m. Children will need to bring a sack lunch.  Light snacks will be provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon.  Advanced registration is required. Limited to 50 participants.

The Crucible was originally written as an allegory for 1950s McCarthyism and the House Committee on Un-American Activities, which accused thousands of Americans of being communists or communist sympathizers. Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning masterpiece continues to resonate in our contemporary society.
