Freddie Cunningham and Root Doctor are coming to the Dogwood Center on April 29! They play a diverse mix of classic soul and R&B, alongside traditional blues and inspired original material.
Root Doctor began in Lansing’s fertile open mic scene. Freddie Cunningham (lead vocals) and James Williams (bass, vocals) first played together as a pick-up band in the late ’80s and both instantly recognized their chemistry and Root Doctor was soon born. Along with Cunningham and Williams, the band includes Mike Skory (Hammond B3, keyboards, vocals), Bill Malone (guitar, vocals) and Bobby Gardner (drums).
The group’s latest CD, “Live at the Cadillac Club”, showcases the bands powerful live show and is hitting a nerve with DJ’s across the country. Positive reviews in Downbeat and Elmore magazines among others provide proof that Root Doctor possesses a sound to be reckoned with.
Root Doctor has shared the stage with lumenaries such as Ray Charles, Koko Taylor, Little Richard, Taj Mahal, Otis Clay, The Pointer Sisters, Macy Gray, James Cotton, Chuck Berry among many others! The group is a hit at festivals and clubs nationwide.
