SUMMARY:Thursday\, May 4 - May Erlewine 7:30 p.m. Main Stage
DESCRIPTION:One of the Midwest’s most prolific and passionate songwriters\, Erlewine has a gift for writing songs of substance that feel both fresh and soulfully familiar. Her ability to emotionally engage with an audience has earned her a dedicated following far beyond her Michigan roots. She shows us her heartbreak\, but she also shows us her empowered and emboldened spirit. In her quest to find her most authentic self\, Erlewine gifts each listener with a powerful\, emotional experience that immediately connects us. \nErlewine draws from a wide variety of influences to create her sound. Lyrically\, her songs are rooted in hard-wrought wisdom\, joy and sorrow\, simplicity\, and stories from her own everyday experiences. Musically\, these messages are wrapped up in traditional folk roots\, Americana\, old-time country swing\, soul\, and even rock and pop sensibilities. \nErlewine’s music has touched people all over the world. Her words have held solace for weary hearts\, offered a light in the darkness\, and held space for the pain and joy of being alive in these times. She is a true artist\, an anthem\, and another example of why we need to listen to women. We need to hear these stories. When she starts to sing\, there’s no way around it: The time is now. \nClick here to purchase tickets. Tickets are $17.50. The Dogwood Center is located one mile east of downtown Fremont. SUMMARY:Dogwood's Summer Youth Theater Auditions "Arsenic and Old Lace"
DESCRIPTION:Auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kessinger\, will take place Sunday\, May 7\, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Thursday\, May 11\, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Dogwood Center for Performing Arts. Ages 12+ \nDogwood’s Summer Youth Theater Presents: Arsenic and Old Lace. Written by Joseph Kessinger and directed by Casey Webb. Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves\, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor\, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine\, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt\, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic black comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family. \nPerformances will take place Thursday\, July 27 and Friday\, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday\, July 29 at 3:00 p.m. Main Stage. Admission is free!

SUMMARY:Saturday\, May 13 - Eddie 9V 7:30 p.m. Black Box
DESCRIPTION:All his life\, Eddie 9V (9-volt) has acted on instinct. Aged just 15\, this old-soul artist turned away from the path of college and jobs to burst all guns blazing onto the roots and blues club circuit of his native Atlanta\, Georgia. Eddie forked hard left digging back into the catalogues of blues giants like Al Green\, Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Freddie King and Percy Sledge. “I took inspiration from Albert Collins\, Otis Rush\, Mike Bloomfield. All those great records were done live with their buddies and no overdubs. I wanted the playing to be spot-on – but even if we made a mistake\, we kept going.” \nEddie 9V not only pricked up the ears of the music press (“A huge talent\,” wrote Blues Blast\, “to be noticed and followed”)\, but earned a respect on the scene. With release of his album Little Black Flies (2021) there’s a sense of an artist coming full circle: the kid who once loitered outside the clubs of Atlanta now leading Georgia’s greatest players into the studio. Certainly\, these recordings gave much-needed catharsis to the musicians who created them. But perhaps Eddie’s aim is to pass that spirit on to everyone who hears the record. “It makes my day to please someone after they work all day\,” he says. “My job is to make them smile and let the music make them forget – or remember.” \nClick here for tickets. Tickets are $17.50 each. General admission\, Black Box. Tables can be reserved with the purchase of eight tickets. The Dogwood Center is located one mile east of downtown Fremont. Doors open for seating at 7:00 p.m. Online sales close two hours prior to events\, please call the box office for ticket availability at 231-924-8885 if online sales have ended. SUMMARY:Friday\, May 26 - "Liar Lear King" Satellite Collective NYC and Grand Rapids Ballet 7:30 p.m. Main Stage
DESCRIPTION:The Dogwood audience will be immersed in live multimedia and dance\, emotional animated film\, and recorded music from cutting edge string quartets to Brooklyn-based digital productions. The program features six athletic dancers of Grand Rapids Ballet\, and artists from Satellite Collective of New York. \n“Liar Lear King” is a bright modern ballet set in the New York City of 1972\, adapted from Shakespeare’s story of family betrayal and tragedy\, “King Lear.” It directly faces the impact of narcissism and bullying on our society. The story is focused not on King Lear and his tragedy\, but on Cordelia and her epic journey as she becomes a force who can mount an invasion of her own country\, only to die at the hands of her own sisters. \nClick here to purchase tickets. Tickets are $17.50. The Dogwood Center is located one mile east of downtown Fremont.
