His annual Christmas tours brighten the holidays for thousands\, as does his electrifying rendition of O’ Holy Night. \nDuring his star-making decade\, John placed 20 singles on the county charts\, 6 of which went Top 5\, with Your Love Amazes Me\, scoring a #1 on the Billboard and Radio & Records Country Chart as well as Standing on the Edge of Goodbye and She’s Taken a Shine earning the #1 slot in Radio & Records . He has earned multiple Gold and Platinum records over the years. John was nominated for the ACM Top New Male Vocalist in 1994\, won a Grammy Award in 1996 for his participation in Amazing Grace: A Country Salute to Gospel Vol. 1\, was nominated for another Grammy in 1995 for his smash hit Your Love Amazes Me and was nominated for the CMA Horizon Award and Top Male Vocalist Award in 1995. Given his wide range of music and number of releases\, John is fortunate in that he can book a solo show with just himself and guitar\, a small-band acoustic show or a full-band engagement and has more than enough hit material to captivate a crowd and deliver an evening full of musical memories. \nJohn’s enduringly powerful performances draw on a lifetime of making music and living life.  Born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia\, he began playing guitar at 13\, performing shows at age 14 and making records at age 19.  “By the time I was 17\, I knew that music was what I wanted to do with my life”; and he has done it well ever since. \nBetween 1979 and 1990 he recorded and marketed six albums on his own labels. The Graduation Song\, which he wrote during his senior year in high school\, became a perennial favorite at graduation ceremonies. It appeared on two of his early collections. \nThose early discs and John’s strong regional popularity attracted attention on Music Row. Capitol Records signed him to his first major label contract in 1992. Berry’s co-written hits A Mind of Her Own and Kiss Me in the Car introduced him to radio audiences in 1993. Then Your Love Amazes Me\, What’s in it for Me and You and Only You thrust him to stardom in 1994. Standing on the Edge of Goodbye\, I Think About it all the Time\, and If I Had Any Pride Left at All were all major hits the following year\, with Standing on the Edge of Goodbye earning John the coveted 1995 Grammy nomination. \nBut it was his stunning performance of the title track of the 1995 CD O’ Holy Night that led to his most enduring legacy to date. John began doing special Christmas tours that year and 2016 marks his 20th anniversary holiday concert tour. He has big plans to celebrate and involve the fans like never before for this anniversary celebration. He has also issued three more Christmas-music collections.  If O’ Holy Night is all that anyone remembers of me\, that’s fine with me\,” he comments about his perennial Christmas popularity. “It is a truly inspired piece of music.” \nHappily\, there were more successes to come. The hit Change My Mind earned John a Top-5 spot on the Country music charts in 1996. She’s Taken a Shine became an even bigger hit in 1997.  Both fans and the media took note again when There He Goes was released as a 1999 duet with Patsy Cline. \nIn 2002\, Berry returned to making records for his own company\, Clear Sky Records. Songs and Stories\, a double CD was issued that year. \nIn 2003\, John Berry released his I Give My Heart collection and its critically applauded wedding anthem Will You Marry Me. The disc also contained his versions of such classic love songs as Time in a Bottle\, If\, Love Look What You’ve Done to Me\, Faithfully\, Lady and Let’s Stay Together. I Give My Heart inspired still another popular concert series\, The Love Tour. \nIn 2008\, Those Were the Days\, was released\, marking John’s return to mainstream country music. He created his first Christian-music CD in 2011. In 2012\, John published the combination book and CD\, again titled Songs and Stories. Over the years he has continued to tour steadily.  “We just have a great group of fans who welcome us every year.  They are always there.” \nIn late 2015 John launched a crowd funded Kickstarter project that proved very successful. Overwhelmed by the fan response\, John assembled an all-star studio team and cut both a Country album entitled What I Love the Most and a new album simply titled Christmas and released both in late 2016.  Blessed with the ability to make the music he wanted to make (and not what a label dictated) allowed John the time to write and create what many music critics who have heard bits & pieces are saying could be his best\, most complete project yet.    “I’m excited to have been able to release this new music and bring it to the fans through a new distribution agreement with Sony RED. It’s a new time in the music business and technology allows me to be closer to my fans and interact in new ways.  You know\, God just keeps blessing me. There are new opportunities coming at every turn.” \n“With time\, I’ve learned that the road to fulfillment is doing what I was called to do\, love to do\, and then doing it the best I can\, regardless of the circumstances.  And for me\, that is making music and singing for people.” \n2017 found John touring in several configurations (acoustic solo\, acoustic trio and full band) culminating in the year-ending legendary Christmas Tour\, marking its 21st year this year. \nAlso\, in August of 2017 John launched a new\, weekly internationally syndicated television show entitled Songs and Stories with John Berry that explored the songs and stories that changed the lives of his weekly guest. Superstar guests in Season 1 of the show include Billy Ray Cyrus\, Billy Dean\, Mo Pitney\, Neal McCoy\, Suzy Bogguss\, Collin Raye\, Craig Morgan\, Mark Wills\, Delbert McClinton\, Clay Walker and Lee Roy Parnell. He followed up a successful Season 1 with Season 2 that showcased artists like Steve Dorff\, Mac McAnally\, Bryan White\, John Schneider\, Radney Foster\, Terri Clark\, Tracy Lawrence\, Darryl Worley\, Pam Tillis\, Rhonda Vincent\, newcomers Sean Berry\, Preston James and Blane Howard and closing out the season with the legendary group\, Exile. \nSongs and Stories with John Berry aired for two years\, multiple times weekly to over 105 million homes across the United States as well as the UK and New Zealand on great networks like Heartland Television\, The Family Channel\, The Country Channel\, Phil Mack’s Keep it Country (UK)\, Country TV (New Zealand) and Ride TV. \nAlong with Season 2 of Songs and Stories with John Berry\, 2018 saw John celebrating his 25th anniversary since signing his major label deal\, touring the country\, being recognized by the State of Georgia with a proclamation naming a day in his honor\, receiving the key to the city in his old hometown of Athens\, Georgia after a sold out return show there (celebration his first show in an Athens club in 25 years)\, being featured in the critically acclaimed major motion picture “Beautifully Broken” by singing the title cut\, which saw him notch his first Top 30 Country in hit in 22 years\,  releasing a new recording project which contains several songs John co-wrote that celebrates his life\, entitles “Thomas Road” and ended with his celebrated Christmas tour\, the 22nd annual tour. \n2019 proved to be another surprising year\, with health challenges kicking it off. In January\, John was diagnosed with cancer of his tonsils and had them removed. That was followed by 7 rounds of chemo and 35 rounds of radiation. He took the first 4 months of the year off to recuperate and his treatments successfully removed the cancer before resuming and singing as if it never happened. \nJohn took advantage of being off the road for the bigger part of 2020 and created new opportunities to continue his reach to his fan base and reach new ones.  Highlights include partnering with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for his weekly series\, “Songs and Stories For Kids\,” which charted multiple times on the Pollstar Live Stream Chart. \nHe released a new video and re-recorded a new single for “The Graduation Song\,” and with his wife Robin\, launched a new podcast\, Faith Family & Friends with John & Robin Berry\, which to date has featured an array of interesting and famous guests from across the spectrum of interests including Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Richie Furay\, Country & Gospel Music Hall of Fame member (and former Statler Brother) Jimmy Fortune\, Country Music Hall of Fame member (and Oak Ridge Boy) Duane Allen\, Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton\, former University of Georgia College Football coaching legend Vince Dooley\, Country Music greats Billy Dean\, Darryl Worley\, Charlie Daniels (in his last public interview). Also featured are best selling authors Kim Campbell (widow of music great Glen Campbell) and Megan Alexander (Inside Edition National correspondent & co-host of Circle TV’s Coffee Country & Cody show) and many others. \n2021 saw John emerge with a host of new projects in development and with his sights firmly set on his 25th Anniversary of his legendary Christmas Tour\, with a grand presentation planned that will leave audiences amazed and full of joy & hope for the future. DESCRIPTION:John McEuen {Co-Founder of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band} The Life I’ve Picked \nAn Evening with John McEuen and The Circle Band: \nJohn takes the audience on his trip with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, one that led to the incredible multi-platinum Will the Circle be Unbroken album which he initiated in 1972. John captured the band over the years on 8mm film\, and with his brother’s (William E. McEuen\, manager/producer) video and stills\, we see the unseen backstory of this iconic musician\, album\, and band. Exactly what did happen at the magic sessions that created the landmark Will the Circle Be Unbroken album? Possibly the most popular and famous Americana/Blue Grass album ever recorded\, and how John started it in Colorado\, is told with the music and video on stage. “These previously unseen shots\, on a huge screen\, are incredible. It’s like being there!” John says\, “We play songs that relate to what is on the screen”. \nJoined by another NGDB co-founder and “Circle” veteran (bass\, mandolin) Les Thompson\, John brings his guitar\, banjo\, fiddle\, and mandolin along with their favorite Dirt Band and Circle songs to the audience. With them will be Danny Knicely (guitar\, mandolin and great vocals) bringing his incredible mastery to this show\, singing some of the songs with his Virginia voice. And\, Bryan McDowell\, also a ‘Winfield winner’\, with his vocals\, guitar and mandolin. John tells the stories behind the songs\, collaborating with such notables as Johnny Cash\, Willie Nelson\, Maybelle Carter\, Bob Dylan\, and life-long friend Steve Martin. \nFor Fremont’s Dogwood Performing Arts Center John has invited The Stranded Hoboes to do a cameo performance and join in a few ‘Circle’ songs. This bluegrass group (made up with Wounded Warriors)\, and will also play “Bluegrass Banjo Boy” with John\, a tune he recorded with them last year. \nMcEuen’s renown countless jams include street performers to Phish\, Earl Scruggs\, Levon Helm\, Leon Russell… and even Sesame Street with a herd of goats and a cow! Arguably\, McEuen’s most important legacy may be his initiation of what Rolling Stone called “The most important record to come out of Nashville” and 2004 ZAGAT survey called “the most important record in country music” – Will the Circle Be Unbroken \n………………………… \nA co-founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (1966)\, John McEuen has continually performed since 1963 – 11\,500 concerts and 300 television shows throughout more than 4 million miles – both with the band and as a solo performer. He has been honored solo by the Folk Alliance Organization Best in the West Award. Beyond performing\, John has a rich history of creating\, producing and preserving original and traditional folk and acoustic music… and\, taking it to new audiences. \nMcEuen has made over 40 albums (6 solo) that have earned five platinum and five gold recognition awards\, multiple Grammy Awards and nominations\, CMA and ACM awards\, Emmy nominations\, IBMA record of the year award\, and performed on another 25 albums as guest artist. DESCRIPTION:Lerone Martin\nSOUL FORCE: THE CHALLENGE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING\nLerone Martin is an associate professor of religious studies at Stanford and an award-winning author. He has been recognized for his teaching and received numerous institutional teaching awards and nationally recognized fellowships.   \nIn his most recent book\, The Gospel of J. Edgar Hoover\, Martin discusses the historical and legal context of government surveillance of Martin Luther King Jr.\, its implications for the Civil Rights Movement\, and lessons for today’s social justice efforts.  \nMartin is also the Martin Luther King Jr. centennial chair and director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University. DESCRIPTION:Dan Tepfer\nFROM BACH TO NATURAL MACHINES: ALGORITHMS AS THE SHAPERS OF MUSIC\nDan Tepfer is a pianist-composer. He has recorded and performed around the world and composed for various ensembles. He believes the best music exists at the intersection of the spiritual and the algorithmic.   \nHis performances incorporate improvisation at the piano accompanied by a computer program he wrote to interact with the music—both musically and visually—in real-time. While Tepfer may have more technology available than classical composers\, he has discovered algorithms and logical systems in other famous works\, including those by Bach.   \nTepfer takes a unique approach to his compositions. Additionally\, his musical prowess is recognized across the world. His piano quintet\, Solar Spiral\, was premiered in 2016 at Chicago’s Ravinia Festival\, with Tepfer performing alongside the Avalon String Quartet. Tepfer has received commissions from the Prague Castle Guard Orchestra for his suite Algorithmic Transform and concerto The View from Orohena (2010). He is also a prolific author and editor\, having written or contributed to 8 books and several publications.   \nHe is passionate about religious liberty and the human good and believes governments are obligated to respect and protect religious freedom as a basic right of their citizens. To defend this idea\, George uses his extensive academic background\, including a master’s of theological studies and juris doctorate from Harvard University. He also earned a doctorate of philosophy\, bachelor’s of civil law\, doctorate of civil law\, and doctorate of letters from Oxford University.   \nGeorge is a current member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is Of Counsel to the law firm of Robinson & McElwee. She is constantly pushing the envelope with her poetry\, cooking\, and writing. Additionally\, Williams is a writer-in-residence in medicine\, health\, and society at Vanderbilt University. \nShe wrote Soul Food Love with her mother\, Alice Randall\, to reclaim the narrative of health and body preservation through Black cuisine—and share recipes along the way. She seeks to dispel the myths that all of her culture’s food is unhealthy and the scope of their food is limited dishes traditionally labeled “soul food.” \nWilliams has two other books: The Diary of B.B. Bright and Lucy Negro Redux. She also wrote the viral New York Times piece\, “You Want a Confederate Monument? DESCRIPTION:TOMMY CALDWELL\nROUTE FINDING FOR SUCCESS\nTommy Caldwell is a talented rock climber\, with numerous accomplishments in sport\, traditional\, and free climbing\, big wall first ascents\, and speed records. He’s known for his creative vision\, skill\, and fortitude. \nHe reflects on his most harrowing expedition in the memoir The Push: A Climber’s Journey of Endurance\, Risk\, and Going Beyond the Limits. During the trip to Kyrgyzstan\, Caldwell and three fellow climbers were taken hostage. They survived for six days with no food and little water. They eventually escaped when Caldwell pushed their remaining captor off a cliff and ran 10 miles to a military outpost to find help. \nA year after his hostage epic\, Caldwell cut off his index finger with a table saw doing home renovations. DESCRIPTION:ABRAM VAN ENGEN\, JOANNE DIAZ AND MARILYN NELSON\nA LIVE RECORDING OF THE PODCAST\, “POETRY FOR ALL” WITH MARILYN NELSON\nMarilyn Nelson is a three-time finalist for the National Book Award and one of America’s most celebrated poets. She has written or translated 20 poetry books for adults and children and five chapbooks. Her poems embrace numerous themes about growing up in an African American military family\, love\, racism\, motherhood\, marriage\, and more. \nHer verse memoir\, How I Discovered Poetry\, was named one of NPR’s Best Books of 2014\, and her numerous works have received a combined 20 awards and nominations. Nelson’s many other honors include two NEA creative writing fellowships\, the Poetry Foundation’s Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize\, the Connecticut Arts Award\, and ACLS Contemplative Practices Fellowship\, the Department of the Army’s Commander’s Award for Public Service\, a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship\, a fellowship from the J.S. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation\, the Wallace Stevens Award from The Academy of American Poets\, and the Frost Medal. \nShe is also a professor emerita of English at the University of Connecticut; the former\, founder\, director\, and host of Soul Mountain Retreat; the State of Connecticut’s Poet Laureate from 2001–2006. \nJoanne Diaz and Abram Van Engen are podcast co-hosts Poetry for All\, where they read a poem\, discuss it\, see what makes it tick\, learn how it works\, grow from it\, and then read it again. During the January Series\, they’ll do a live recording of their show with guest Marilyn Nelson. \nJoanne Diaz is an English professor at Illinois Wesleyan University and the author of two poetry collections\, The Lessons and My Favorite Tyrants. \nShe is the recipient of fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Ragdale Foundation\, and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.
