DESCRIPTION:Irish singer-songwriter Karan Casey has been blazing a trail for over 25 years. A lover of ballads\, love songs and searing versions of social justice songs\, fond of a good yarn\, she has toured the world making deep connections with her audience connecting via Ireland’s past but crucially repositioning women and songs in a universal and a modern setting. \nKaran has been striking out lately to explore new areas of performance on the piano and with spoken word and theatre. She has released eleven albums as well as contributing to numerous other artists’ projects – appearing on more than 50 albums so far – and has toured extensively throughout North America\, Europe and Japan\, performing with her own band as well as collaborating with such diverse musicians as Maura O’Connell\, James Taylor\, Bela Fleck\, Boston Pops Orchestra\, Kate Ellis\, Niall Vallely\, Pauline Scanlon\, The Chieftains\, The Dubliners\, Peggy Seeger\, Karen Matheson\, Mick Flannery\, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin\, Tim O’Brien and Solas. In 2018 Karan helped found FairPlé which is an organization aimed at achieving fairness and gender balance for female performers in Irish traditional and folk musics. Karan tours with her band Niamh Dunne\, Sean Óg Graham and Niall Vallely. \nKaran most recent album Hieroglyphs That Tell the Tale produced by Donald Shaw\, was released on the Vertical Records Label. Her song “Down in the Glen” was nominated for Best Original Folk Song at the RTE Folk Awards 2019 and she completed a PhD in music in 2019. Karan has recently performed her new show with Director Sophie Motley called I Walked into My Head which was premiered at the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2021. Karan is currently working on a stage show about women in the Irish revolutionary period to be produced at the Everyman Theatre in Cork in 2023. DESCRIPTION:Dave has been a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall with The New York Pops (2013) and has been featured with 35 other US and Canadian orchestras including Nashville\, Detroit\, Rochester\, Omaha\, Toronto\, Calgary\, Vancouver\, Orlando\, San Antonio\, Jacksonville\, Portland\, OR and Portland\, ME.  Some of his annual appearances include The Elkhart Jazz Festival\, The Suncoast Classic Jazz Festival\, The Arizona Classic Jazz Festival\, The Sacramento Hot Jazz Jubilee\, The Clambake Music Festival\, and The Redwood Coast Music Festival. \nDave has been featured on NPR Radio’s “Jazz at Riverwalk.” He made his European debut in 2008 at The Bern Jazz Festival (Switzerland) in a combo with jazz legends and Benny Goodman band alumni guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and vibraphonist\, the late Peter Appleyard. \nIn March 2022\, Dave and his band performed to a sold-out audience at New York City’s Birdland Theater. Dave is a Mack Avenue Records artist. His 2013 CD “Don’t Be That Way” met with critical acclaim.  His second release\, Blood Moon\, which features five originals and six pop/jazz covers\, reached No 24 on the Billboard Jazz charts in 2018. \nDuring the isolation of the pandemic\, fate steered Bennett’s time off the road and pushed him into his home studio where he transcended his jazz leanings altogether.  Released in June 2022\, “Nowhere Fast” taps into the pain and joy of living in these trying times\, the power of healing\, and music’s ability to transform isolation into inspiration.  Road songs\, reverb-laded guitar solos that could power a surf documentary\, and memories of loves and lives lost are the mile markers that make up his latest release. \nClick here to purchase tickets. And she enjoys researching and studying what happens to communities and people when long-term employment patterns change. \nIn her award-winning book\, Mill Town: Reckoning with What Remains\, Arsenault uses narrative nonfiction to highlight how the papermill in her hometown contributed to the rise and fall of the community. Mill Town won the Rachel Carson Environment Book Award from the Society of Environmental Journalists and the Maine Literary Award for nonfiction. It was also The New York Times’ Editors’ Choice and top book pick for the Chicago Tribune\, Oprah Magazine\, Newsweek\, Publisher’s Weekly\, and many others. \nArsenault is also a fellow at the Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History at Harvard University\, at the Science History Institute in Philadelphia\, and the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich. DESCRIPTION:Kaia Kater \nSONG SELECTIONS \nKaia Kater is a Grenadian-Canadian singer-songwriter and tradition bearer. Her musical career began as a search to discover the roots of her identity and became a physical and emotional exploration of history\, which ultimately led her to bold new heights of imagination and creative expression. \nShe released her first EP\, Old Soul\, in 2013 when she was just out of high school. Since then\, she’s gone on to release three more albums: Sorrow Bound in 2015\, Nine Pin in 2016\, and Grenades in 2018. She’s received a Canadian Folk Music Award and a Stingray Rising Star Award for her music\, which touches on both social issues as well as more personal narratives. \nKater has toured internationally\, performing at venues such as The Kennedy Center\, Hillside Festival\, and London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush. Recently\, she was appointed the inaugural associate director of the Disability Cultural Initiative at Georgetown University\, a role that seeks to celebrate the diverse disability community and cultivate a culture of access intimacy across campus. \nHer book\, My Body Is Not a Prayer Request\, mixes humor\, personal narrative\, and theology to invite faith communities to rethink their unintentional ableism and learn from the embodied wisdom of disabled people. Kenny explains that it is time for the church to start treating disabled people as full members of the body of Christ who have much more to offer than a miraculous cure narrative. \nKenny’s work on disability has been featured in Teen Vogue\, Sojourners\, Shondaland\, The Mighty\, and Huff Post.
